More Information Comes to Light After Gunman Opens Fire in NC, Killing 5

Just hours after a shooter opened fire on a Raleigh, North Carolina neighborhood, more information is coming to light. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, at least 5 are dead, including an off-duty police officer.

New reports now reveal that the suspect taken into custody is a 15-year-old male. During a Friday morning press conference, Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson said there are still more questions than answers right now. The teen’s identity has not been revealed.

“My heart is heavy because we don’t have answers as to why this tragedy occurred,” Chief Patterson admitted. It was also revealed that while the 15-year-old is in custody, he’s also in critical condition and being treated at a local hospital. Authorities have not said how the suspect was injured.

Patterson continued to reveal that the teenager first fatally shot two people in the streets of a neighborhood before fleeing toward a walking trail. Once he was on the walking trail, he continued to open fire, killing three more people and wounding two others.

Following a manhunt, the shooter was eventually “cornered in a home” and arrested, WMTW reports.

WMTW also reports that those killed in the shooting have been described as “a racially diverse group and ranged in age from 16 to their late 50s.”

Gabriel Torres was the off-duty police officer killed. He was on his way to work when the shooting began. “Nicole Connors, 52; Mary Marshall, 35; Susan Karnatz, 49; and James Thompson, 16,” were also identified as victims.
